In the UK and many other western countries, we live in a food environment where addictive, low nutrient, high fat and high sugar food is everywhere. We lead such busy lives that finding the time and energy to reduce weight by diet and exercise alone can be extremely difficult.

There are loads of weight loss interventions out there - some more extreme than others! There are diets focused on calories, fasting, time restricted eating and exclusion of certain food groups. Some of the more extreme diets can be very appealing as they can result in rapid weight loss, however, they are not sustainable long term and can be dangerous for your health.

Weight loss medications, like Wegovy, are a relatively new player on the weight loss scene and are increasingly available online. Weight Loss Medications

Weygovy

Wegovy is a weight loss aid which contains the active ingredient Semaglutide. It is a weekly injection that has been shown in trials to lead to up to 15% weight loss after 12 months when combined with diet and lifestyle changes. Like Saxenda (Liraglutide), Wegovy works to increase fullness and reduce hunger. It works by mimicking a hormone that targets areas of the brain involved in regulating appetite and food intake. This can help you eat less, which can lead to weight loss. Semaglutide is also available in tablet form as Rybelsus.
Saxenda

Liraglutide. Similar to Weygovy but requiring a daily injection, Saxenda works by suppressing your appetite which makes you feel less hungry, slowing down the emptying of food from your stomach and helping you feel fuller for longer between meals. Studies show that 3 out of 5 people using Saxenda achieve 5% weight loss in the first year when combine with diet and lifestyle changes.
Orlistat / Xenical

Orlistat, a tablet that changes the way your body digests and absorbs fat. When you take Orlistat capsules, the drug binds to the fat in your meals, preventing it from being digested and causing it to pass through your body rather than being absorbed.
Mysimba

Naltrexone with bupropion. Mysimba is a tablet weight loss medication that has been shown to reduce weight when combined with a diet and exercise program. Mysimba is works by suppressing your appetite. Mysimba weight loss is a tablet alternative to Weygovy or Saxenda and is ideal if you want an appetite suppressant but do not like injecting medicine.
Mounjaro

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is the newest, once weekly, injectable weight loss medication. Like Weygovy, it works to increase fullness and reduce hunger by targeting parts of the brain involved in regulating appetite. Trials have shown an average weight loss of up to 11 kg.
